Lymphedema & Lipedema Therapy

About lymphedema and lipedema

Lymphedema is a chronic condition that arises when lymph fluid accumulates in the tissues and most often presents as swelling in an arm or leg; it can develop following surgical procedures, the removal of lymph nodes, or in connection with certain diseases.

Lipedema, on the other hand, is a separate condition that most often shows itself as a symmetrical increase in fatty tissue and tenderness in the legs. The differential diagnosis and medical assessment of the two conditions are made by a physician.

Process and practice

With the Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) approach, a programme is applied that aims to reduce the edema, ease the tissue and support the function of the area. The process can be supported with bandaging, skin-care advice and appropriate exercises.

The programme is planned according to the person's condition and carried out in line with the relevant physician's diagnosis and guidance. The aim is to support the management of complaints and quality of life.
